If you become a necessity to someone else’s life, you are out of God’s will. As a servant, your primary responsibility is to be a “friend of the bridegroom” (John 3:29). 

누군가의 삶에 꼭 필요한 존재가 된다면, 하나님의 뜻에서 벗어난 것입니다. 종으로서 우리의 가장 중요한 책임은 “신랑의 친구”가 되는 것입니다(요한복음 3:29). 

 

When you see a person who is close to grasping the claims of Jesus Christ, you know that your influence has been used in the right direction. 

누군가가 예수 그리스도의 말씀을 받아들이려는 순간에 다가서고 있는 것을 볼 때, 당신의 영향력이 올바른 방향으로 사용되었다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 

 

And when you begin to see that person in the middle of a difficult and painful struggle, don’t try to prevent it, but pray that his difficulty will grow even ten times stronger, until no power on earth or in hell could hold him away from Jesus Christ. 

그리고 그 사람이 어려움과 고통 속에서 힘겨운 싸움을 하고 있는 것을 보게 될 때, 그것을 막으려 하지 말고 오히려 그 어려움이 열 배나 더 커지기를 기도하십시오. 그래서 이 세상이나 지옥의 어떤 힘도 그를 예수 그리스도에게서 떼어 놓지 못하게 하십시오.

 

Over and over again, we try to be amateur providences in someone’s life. We are indeed amateurs, coming in and actually preventing God’s will and saying, “This person should not have to experience this difficulty.” Instead of being friends of the Bridegroom, our sympathy gets in the way. 

우리는 자주 다른 사람의 삶에서 아마추어 섭리자가 되려고 합니다. 실제로 우리는 아마추어에 불과하며, 하나님의 뜻을 방해하고 “이 사람이 이런 어려움을 겪어서는 안 된다”고 말합니다. 신랑의 친구가 되어야 할 우리가 동정심 때문에 하나님의 일을 방해하는 것입니다. 

 

 

One day that person will say to us, “You are a thief; you stole my desire to follow Jesus, and because of you I lost sight of Him.”
언젠가 그 사람은 우리에게 이렇게 말할지도 모릅니다. “당신은 도둑입니다. 당신 때문에 예수를 따르고 싶은 내 마음을 빼앗겼고, 예수님을 바라보는 시야를 잃었습니다.”

Beware of rejoicing with someone over the wrong thing, but always look to rejoice over the right thing. “…the friend of the bridegroom…rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. 

잘못된 일로 누군가와 함께 기뻐하는 것을 경계하고, 언제나 올바른 일로 기뻐하십시오. 신랑의 친구는 신랑의 음성을 듣고 크게 기뻐하나니 

 

Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:29-30). 

나는 이러한 기쁨이 충만하였노라. 그는 흥하여야 하겠고 나는 쇠하여야 하리라” (요한복음 3:29-30).

 

This was spoken with joy, not with sadness— at last they were to see the Bridegroom! 

이 말씀은 슬픔이 아니라 기쁨으로 말한 것입니다. 드디어 사람들이 신랑을 보게 되었기 때문입니다.

 

And John said this was his joy. It represents a stepping aside, an absolute removal of the servant, never to be thought of again.
요한은 이것이 자신의 기쁨이라고 말했습니다. 이것은 종의 철저한 물러남과 완전한 제거를 의미하며, 다시는 기억되지 않는 것을 뜻합니다.

Listen intently with your entire being until you hear the Bridegroom’s voice in the life of another person. 

당신의 전 존재로 신랑의 음성이 다른 사람의 삶에서 들리는 것을 경청하십시오.

 

And never give any thought to what devastation, difficulties, or sickness it will bring. Just rejoice with godly excitement that His voice has been heard. You may often have to watch Jesus Christ wreck a life before He saves it (see Matthew 10:34).

 그리고 그 과정에서 어떤 파괴나 어려움, 병이 따를지라도 전혀 신경 쓰지 마십시오. 그분의 음성이 들렸다는 사실에 신령한 기쁨으로 함께 기뻐하십시오. 때로는 예수 그리스도께서 한 사람의 삶을 무너뜨리시는 것을 바라보아야 할 때도 있습니다. 그것이 그를 구원하기 위한 과정이기 때문입니다(마태복음 10:34 참조).
